VALORANT Beta Review

VALORANT Beta Review
Written By Trey Sherrod

Valorant, as far as I’m concerned, has consumed the lives of thousands of gamers. From playing the extremely versatile FPS tactical shooter to thousands of hours watched on multiple streaming platforms, Valorant seems to be the only thing people have been talking about. And yet I don’t feel as if it has blown anyone away.

This is an amazing game, and yet it’s still only in beta. So my instincts tell me it is definitely capable of being a big name for the foreseeable future.

I say again, it is CAPABLE of being a great game for a long time but that is no guarantee.

There are a few things, in my opinion that need to change as far as map mechanics and agent balancing.

The maps have been the major thing holding Valorant back. The routes seem extremely narrow and barely maneuverable even with the use of agent abilities. The corners are the deepest I have seen in any game I’ve ever played. The fact that I have to make a 90 degree turn in both directions in order to check the inner depths of corners is something I’m still getting used to.
The weapons, for the most part, are pretty balanced. The Op is the AWP, if you know what I’m saying. The vandal is the AK… The Phantom is the M4A1S on crack, and the stinger is trash.
Agent balancing is a big one

The biggest hope of mine for Riot and Valorant’s sake is their experience with champion balancing in League of Legends. I feel as if this experience mixed with the CS:GO experience on the team is the perfect combination, as long as they are observant and listen to the community’s response to additional agents as well as current agent abilities. There are a few abilities in the current state of the game that are a bit over powered. For example, Phoenix and his flashes are complained about constantly. I don’t see his flashes as much as a hindrance as Breach’s. I didn’t come here to complain, I just hope they listen to the outcries of the community and don’t break down in order to cater to more casual players. The game came out for the beta state in better shape than most games do on full release. We can all only hope for the best to come from this highly anticipated title.
